Charlotte Church sings the praises of breastfeeding
April 30th, 2008 at 9:00 by Catherine Wilson
Young celebrity mum Charlotte Church has jumped off the fence to join the ‘breast or bottle’ debate when it comes to feeding eight month-old baby Ruby.
Charlotte firmly believes that breast is best. Speaking ahead of a Welsh Assembly Government drive to promote breastfeeding, she urged young mums to consider ditching formula milk and bottles in favour of the boob.
Charlotte, who’s 21, said: “It was really reassuring knowing that Ruby had extra protection from chest, ear and stomach infections, as well as from diabetes and allergies. On top of that, breastfeeding is free and really convenient - especially in the middle of the night!”
Dozens of recent studies have bigged up funbag feeding, highlighting the decreases in risks of cancer and numerous benefits for the child. Statistics show that only 42% of Welsh mums over the age of 20 choose to breastfeed, compared with 76% of mothers over 30.
Seeing as though Charl’s previous exploits, such as Cheeky Vimto bingeing and Gavin Henson-bothering, have gained so much exposure, it’s hoped that this slightly more serious issue will also benefit from Charlotte’s name.
