How to combat blubbery back fat
May 2nd, 2008 at 9:00 by Catherine Wilson
Most women have problems with their ‘muffin top’, that unsightly tyre of flab that rests smugly atop our jeans - a constant reminder of the family-sized bag of Maltesers we ate just after lunch.
Unfortunately, flab manages to squeeze its way out in other places. Hands up if you’ve got a fat back? Yes, it sounds strange, but if you’re storing excess fat on your back, it will spill over the edges of a tight top - a second muffin top, if you will.
All this talk of muffins is making us hungry, but at least we can do something to sort out the bulge on our backs. The best way to rid your back and sides of overhang is, unsurprisingly, to target it with exercise, and of course, back fat will ruin your hot bikini body.
According to More magazine’s personal trainer Kristoph, a cardio activity that tones your upper body and burns calories will blitz the bulge. He recommends a mix of swimming, rowing and the dreaded cross-trainer for three sessions a week.
If you don’t feel that energetic, he also suggests a Dyna Band, which is like a huge elastic band that you can use to perform resistance exercises. We reckon that a few sessions with one of these, combined with some light jogging, will banish your back blubber before you can say “hello, summer!”
