Children have been urged to exercise during ad breaks An NHS leaflet which urged kids to exercise during TV ad breaks has been shelved after being branded ‘patronising’ and’ unrealistic’ by angry parents.

Red-faced health chiefs were forced to withdraw the booklet, designed to curb growing child obesity levels in the UK, after several complaints from focus groups.

pills_plate, pills, drugs, drug, rimonabantAn obesity drug has been approved for use in England and Wales – despite carrying a risk of depression or even suicide.

Do not exceed dosage… do not drink excessive alcohol… do not operate heavy machinery… do not listen to Nick Drake and look through old pictures of your ex who has Moved On Spectacularly.

Scotland obesity crisisPregnant women and toddlers have been targeted in a new £40m anti-obesity initiative in Scotland.

Obesity rates north of the border have hit record levels, with around one in five Scots clinically obese. It costs the NHS £200m a year.

And chiefs are determined to tackle it – starting with mums-to-be and under fives in deprived areas.

fat-ass, fat, fat gene, fat bumMillions of people have a ‘fat gene’ that makes them more greedy than others.

If you are one of these unfortunates, you’ll take in an extra 300 calories in the course of an average day. Over time, this will lead to being overweight, and even obese.

Cram in brekker, lose more weight

June 18th, 2008 21:45

breakfast, big breakfast, brekker, egg, fry-up, weight lossLadies who stuff it in first thing stay fuller for longer, snack less, lose weight and keep it off. Sounds like a convincing argument for an almighty grill-up.

We’ve always known breakfast was the most important meal of the day because our mum told us, but now there’s science fact as well as mum fact to back it up.

Half of UK men are trying to lose weightWho said men could not careless about how their bodies look?

In fact, according to the most predictable health and diet survey since yesterday, men are just as keen as women to get rid of their flabby arms and stomachs as women.

Or at least in the UK they are. Not that we are saying other men around the world are not interested in shedding the pounds. No way!!

Even the Med is full of fatties

June 3rd, 2008 17:01

mediterranean, food, med, mediterranean diet, obesity, spain, greece, italyThe Mediterranean way of life has long been hailed as the healthiest for brain and body and now it could be put on the world heritage list. But with Spain facing its own obesity crisis, should we really be bigging it up?

Spain – along with buddies Italy, Greece and Morocco – reckons the Mediterranean diet is so traditional and good for us that it should be put on the world heritage list.

But what exactly constitutes the Mediterranean diet?

Fancy munching on a plate of locusts? Or even a maggot salad?

No? Ok, how about some wasps and rice?

Doesn’t exactly tickle the taste buds, does it? But such a diet could well be the solution to the growing world food crisis.

These figures have prompted claims that the Government is not doing enough to prevent the spiralling obesity epidemic.

May 28th, 2008 09:00

Women constantly diet - for an average of ten years of their lives. The average woman spends a decade of her life on a diet.

Pregnant man, Thomas Beatie, has had the baby

baby, dummy, pacifier, thomas beatie, pregnant man, man baby, man, sex changeAnd if we were a tabloid we’d put man in snarky apostrophes, but we’re just a little bit classier here at DietPixie.

Of course we all know the story. It’s age old. Man meets woman. Falls in love. They decide to have a baby. Man used to be woman until sex change op. Well, partial sex change op. Man still has some of his old womanly bits knocking about. Man carries baby. Goes on Oprah. And now… man has given birth to baby girl.

It’s a beautiful thing.

If only more men gave birth to babies. Maybe then we’d get a bit more bloody understanding about how much it Bloody Hurts. Oh well.

Thomas, 34, was born a lady, but took hormones and had his breasts removed to live as a man. He always hoped to get pregnant one day though, so he kept his female sex organs, telling Oprah it was down to his “human desire” and “right to have my own biological child.”

Some stuffy old squares didn’t agree though, largely the Christian right of America who went flipping apeshit.

His wife Nancy, 45, already has grown-up children and cannot have more biologically after having a hysterectomy.
