Gum disease can lead to an increased risk of cancer.Scientists have found that people who have gum disease also have an increased risk of getting cancer.

Patients who have a history of gum disease and dental problems may find that they could be 14 percent more likely to develop cancerous tumours.

In the past, research has found that sufferers of advanced gum disease are far more susceptible to serious illnesses such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Now the risk has become worse with cancer added to the list.

There is officially nothing worse than standing next to someone on a hot and crowded train or bus, to have them breathe their horrible, whiffy breath in your face. Fact.

Thankfully, some wonderfully clever scientists (who have probably encountered this on their daily commute) have found out a magical way to mask the stinky odours.

It’s a traditional Chinese medicine called magnolia bark extract.

Your teeth might not be getting the health boost that smoothies profess to give.Smoothies. Nobody really cared a few years ago, did they?

People were happy to eat actual pieces of fruit, and not whizz them up in a lazy way, or part with an extortionate amount of cash for an exotically-named blend from one of these new juice bars.

Anyway, it seems that the only people who aren’t jumping on the smoothie bandwagon are dentists. Which is surprising, as it could lead many lucrative fillings for them in the future.

DietPixie looking for a new editor

The more observant of you may have noticed it has been a while since we posted a new story.

This is basically because DietPixie currently has no editor. Our former editor, Holly, recently had a baby and understandably found the stresses and strains of juggling the demands of a full-time job, website and motherhood a little too much.

But don’t worry. We are currently in the process of looking for a new editor and the site should be back up and running soon.

Want to throw your hat into the ring? Well, that’s great. We really believe in DietPixie and we want it to be a success.

Just send me an email at david@hecklerspray.com and tell me why you would be a great editor or writer of Dietpixie and we’ll take it from there.
