Wii games have changed our minds about exercise…

Contrary to earlier reports on DietPixie, virtual gaming, such as the sports games on the Nintendo Wii, are not a suitable replacement for formal exercise, say American health and fitness experts.
According to www.sciencedaily.com, old-fashioned childlike exercise is far more beneficial than the faux-fitness offered by gaming consoles. “Virtual gaming is no replacement for real exercise. It’s a place to start, though. Kids can have fun doing it, they can feel a little better about actually trying the sport or activity,” reckons Colleen Greene, the wellness coordinator for the University of Michigan.
On the Wii, you can actively take part in various sporting events, such as tennis, baseball, golf and boxing. However, as Greene points out, many of the games don’t involve much more than slight swings of the arm - hardly as taxing as that weekly bodypump or spinning class.
If you would like to use your Wii as a means of fitness, try assembling a flat-pack television stand on which to display your flashy console. Time spent scrabbling around for missing screws, and eventually marching back to the shop for a refund, will be cracking calorie burners.
For ideas on how to keep fit like a kid, watch this space as DietPixie will be bringing you a special feature very soon.
