A new survey suggests that a third of all adults in the UK are permanently on a diet.
A survey of 2,000 people for supermarket giants Tesco found that one in three adults are constantly trying to shed the pounds.
Of those questions, the over-55s were the most likely to diet every month.
Of the mature respondants, 15% try and limit calorie intake every day.
More than one in 20 women admitted to worrying about their figures for over three hours a day and 15% of adults worry about their weight for between 30 minutes and an hour every day.
Those who were watching their weight admitted that self-confidence was the main driving factor. Some 60% of women and 44% of men hoped that by losing weight they would feel better about themselves.
One in five of those surveyed also felt losing weight would improve their love lives.
