Knob-rot on the rise amongst middle-aged
June 30th, 2008 at 20:51 by Holly
In our day, 45 was the age to slip behind the wheel of a Mondeo, slap some Steeleye Span on the tape deck and wind down the country lane to middle-age.
Now, apparently, it’s the age to slip behind a rodeo pole-dancer, slap some lube on the poop deck and wind down the country lane to a known dogging spot.
New figures show the STI rate among over-45s has doubled in a decade as a result of ‘sexual risk taking’.
According to the Daily Mail, which has its grimy old peephole knickers in a twist about this:
“The failure to practise safe sex has led to the number of infections to rocket 127 %.”
Top of the pops was genital warps, the second most diagnosed infection was herpes. Men over 45 accounted for 67% of all cases.
This particular study looked at 4,445 diagnoses made in people aged 45 and over at 19 genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics in the West Midlands between 1996 and 2003, but the authors are quick to suggest that other studies suggest the same problem of ’sexual risk-taking’ among older age groups.
