Jade has been speaking to GMTV about her cancer ordeal – and claims she didn’t know that the ‘cancer conversation’ was being recorded for TV.
She told GMTV that doctors had originally given her the all clear and packed her off with painkillers for period pain.
She said:
“I was in hospital for a week, and they didn’t do anything because they didn’t know what it was, even though it was the fourth time I had been there for the same reason.
“They did a belly scan and everything was fine, even my blood, so they said to me it was either a bad period or stress.
She learned of her cancer diagnosis with in the Indian Big Brother House but claims she didn’t know she was being filmed.Jade Goody spoke live on television today for the first time since being diagnosed with cervical cancer.
The reality star revealed doctors initially gave her the all clear, and sent her away with just pain killers for period pain.Jade was told of her cancer diagnosis while in the Indian Big Brother house last month, but now claims she wasn’t aware the conversation was being filmed.
She told GMTV that her symptoms were initially dismissed: ‘I was in hospital for a week, and they didn’t do anything because they didn’t know what it was, even though it was the fourth time I had been there for the same reason.
“They did a belly scan and everything was fine, even my blood, so they said to me it was either a bad period or stress.“In the end I began to feel really frustrated, like they were insulting my intelligence, I thought they thought I was being a hypochondriac and lying about it.
“I made a conscious effort to tell them that I was going away for a long period of time and they wouldn’t be able to get in touch, and would that be okay. They said I was fine and I was fit and healthy.”
Jade was told that she did in fact have cancer while in the Diary Room of Bigg Boss – the Indian Big Brother – and not only did she have cancer, but it had started to spread. She said:
“They previously told me it wasn’t serious - 1B, and they also said to me that I needed to wait a week for an MRI scan. But in that same day they called me and said they had space for an MRI scan - I think they were worried so they were backtracking.
“In the mean time I was talking to a private doctor. I told her all my symptoms - she hadn’t even seen me - and straight away she said this has been here for a long time. It was a case of being 2B+ - it’s gone out of the womb and into the blood stream now.
“I’ve got to go tomorrow to find out what treatment I need. The doctor’s told me over the phone, but he wants to sit me down and tell me step by step because it’s quite sensitive.
“My first thought was cancer, chemo, death, because that’s all I know of it.
“I didn’t know it was being filmed either, and that conversation I was having was actually to my agent, it wasn’t to my doctor.”
Jade, 27, had some more serious accusations to level at BB bosses:
“[They] wanted me to go out and tell everybody. I was like, ‘I can’t do that, I need my family and friends to know before I just randomly say it on television.’
“And it was really horrible, it was really, really hard because I had no one, at that time when you found out all you want is a cuddle or something, and I had nothing.”
Jade, mum to two boys, is now likely to have a hysterectomy, leaving her unable to have more children naturally.
“My mum looked after the boys when I first found out because I wasn’t physically strong enough - I was breaking down all the time.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m not made of iron, I still break down, but I’m a lot stronger now.
“I realise that when I’m with my boys - I’ve spent the whole week away with them doing things like rock climbing which I wouldn’t ever normally do. It makes me smile and it makes me forget for a bit.”
She denied the experience would be turned into a reality TV show:
“I’m not doing a TV show out of this. I was filming before and it all finished when I went to India.
“I would never do that, it’s something that I need to go through on my own and get strong.”
Never thought I’d say this but… well done, Jade.
