It’s not my fault, it’s my fat gene

Millions of people have a ‘fat gene’ that makes them more greedy than others.
If you are one of these unfortunates, you’ll take in an extra 300 calories in the course of an average day. Over time, this will lead to being overweight, and even obese.
The gene is a ‘rogue’ version of the FTO gene carried by over half of us.
The research was undertaken by scientists at Aberdeen University and Aberdeen’s Rowett Research Institute, where the food eaten by 150 men and women over the course of a week was weighed and categorised.
Blood samples were taken from all 150 participants and scanned for the ‘fat gene’.
Those with the gene ate 120 to 290 calories a day more than others. The calories came from a range of foods – not the obvious sweet treats and stodge.
No link was found to metabolism.
According to the Daily Mail, one in six Brits is thought to have two rogue copies of the FTO gene, which increases the risk of obesity by 70% and diabetes by 50%.
