How to beat garlic breath with super chewing gum

There is officially nothing worse than standing next to someone on a hot and crowded train or bus, to have them breathe their horrible, whiffy breath in your face. Fact.
Thankfully, some wonderfully clever scientists (who have probably encountered this on their daily commute) have found out a magical way to mask the stinky odours.
It’s a traditional Chinese medicine called magnolia bark extract.
Traditionally, magnolia bark extract has been used to treat fever, headaches and stress, but scientists have discovered that it’s particularly useful in getting rid of garlicky breath.
Bad breath happens when bacteria in your saliva break down food - the resulting product is a nasty-smelling sulphur compound. Bad breath is also known as halitosis.
Magnolia bark extract has been added to top chewing gum brand Wrigley’s products in an attempt to make their chewy even more potent.
Nine volunteers chewed the gum after meals and more than 61 percent of the germs that cause bad breath were killed off within half an hour. Apparently, chewing the gum is comparable to using a strong mouthwash.
Pretty impressive stuff, we think you’ll agree. You could even say it was tree-mendous!
