Healthier milk comes from organic cows

A study by Newcastle University has found that organically-reared cows produce healthier milk than the standard-bred variety.
Cattle fed on fresh grass had 60% more good fatty acids than milk from non-organic cows, with the most notable results being found in the summer months.
These good fatty acids are known as CLA9, and consist of conjugated linoleic acids and omega 3.
The livestock project manager for the university’s Nafferton Ecological Farming Group, Gillian Butler, who led the research, said: “Our work has not looked at the impact on human health, but I would say organic milk should be better for health from what we know of the benefits of these good fatty acids. They are effective in combating cancer, coronary heart disease and type II diabetes.”
Researchers found that by adding linseed, soya beans and rapeseed to indoor cows’ diets, the resulting milk product was of a similar to that of the outdoor cows.
The results seem to show that organic milk has better health benefits than standard milk.
