Women win right to breast-feed in public

Women will soon be allowed to breast-feed their babies in pubs, trains and restaurants – even the really posh ones.
They could even legally get their boobs out in front of The Queen, if they so wish. Just not at a Royal Palace or the Houses of Parliament (not fair!).
Why? Well, it’s because parliament is introducing laws later this year which will make it an offence to stop women breast-feeding babies aged up to six months.
Now, women getting their boobs out for all and sundry may seem like a teenage boy’s idea of heaven.
But, at the moment, any woman breast-feeding in public faces prosecution under public order or indecency laws.
However, that is soon all to change after women complained they were made to feel embarrassed for breast-feeding in public.
And when you consider the health benefits of breast-feeding over bottle-feeding and the fact British mothers breast-feed the least in Europe, you can see why MPs have acted.
Speaking in UK newspaper The Times, A Cabinet Office spokesman said:
“Final decisions have yet to be made, but the government is keen to give new mothers complete confidence to breast-feed while going about their normal business, for example while on the bus or in a cafe.”
So how do you feel about that? Like I mentioned before, teenage boys, I am sure, will be delighted. But how would you feel if a woman is breast-feeding next to you in a pub or café?
Do you care? I know I don’t. But it’s bound to cause a stir. Just this year a woman was stopped from doing it at a doctor’s surgery on health and safety grounds.
However, MPs believe it is essential if we are to catch up with the rest of the continent and are now deliberating over whether to extend the limit to over six months.
Not that anyone is going to check or care whether a baby is a few months older. Just please draw the line at 10-year-olds. You may scoff, but there are some women…
Anyway, the only places you cannot breast-feed are royal houses or the Houses of Parliament, because they are exempt from the law, apparently.
However, it could lead to a new craze of trying to find the strangest places in the UK to breast-feed. A football match is my shout. Any other ideas?
