Fat people blamed for all that is wrong in the world

Global warming, climate change and the world food crisis - what do they all have in common?
Yep, that’s right, you’ve guessed it: they are all the fault of fat people.
The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, despite sounding like the least likely school ever, has decided that because the obese consume 18% more calories than normal, they are to blame for the world’s ills.
This larger consumption of food has a two-fold effect on the environment, experts say. Are you ready for this?
Firstly, the increased demand for food means that production has to grow as well. This obviously means that more fuels will be used to power the production, which in turn drives up the price of fuel. Increased fuel costs are then passed onto consumers with a rise in food prices. Bad news all round.
If you thought it couldn’t get any worse, you’re wrong. Because obese people are apparently too lazy to get to places on foot, this puts strain on transport, again pushing up the cost of fuel.
It hardly seems fair to put the burdens of the world on those who are a couple of pounds overweight, but it is still interesting to see the impact that normal, everyday people can have on the environment.
Phil Edwards, who co-authored the article, said: “Urban transport policies that promote walking and cycling would reduce food prices by reducing the global demand for oil and promotion of a normal weight.”
However, Dr David Haslam, of the National Obesity Forum, said it was “stretching it a bit” to blame the obese in this way.
As if overweight people didn’t have enough to worry about!
