Every woman’s ten year diet

The average woman spends a decade of her life on a diet.
According to a poll conducted by natural weightloss supplement manufacturers LIPObind, ladies will go on 104 diets between the ages of 18 and 70 – that’s two a year!
As the average length of a diet is around five weeks, that works out to be around 10 years. Ten years?! Now that’s a long time to deny yourself what you really want to eat.
Mind you, one in ten women go even further at 25 years. Ok, it’s just a poll, so it’s not exactly the most accurate measurement. However, 4,000 participants is a lot, and it does reveal some other very interesting results.
For example, a third of the women who took part in the poll said they started dieting before the age of 16. But how successful are they? Well, on average they shed around 6.3lbs on each diet – that’s a stone a year.
However, as many resorted to doing two a year, it’s clear the pounds soon returned. In fact, a quarter lost no weight at all. So what does this prove?
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Dr Glenn Wilson, of the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College, London, said: “This highlights just how much women think about their weight and the pressure associated with keeping in shape.
“Women’s weight is bound to fluctuate due to life changing events such as having a baby, emotional factors associated with relationships and changes in their working environment.
“These changes and yo-yo dieting seems often to go hand in hand.
“Feeling healthy and in shape can make such a difference to overall well-being yet many people struggle to reach and sustain their ideal figure with a shocking 25 per cent who would even be willing to go under the knife to get rid of their extra pounds.”
So, nothing new there, then. However, the most revealing statistic of all is that 59 per cent don’t think they ever achieve the shape they want.
