£900 vibrator to jiggle jelly away

The celebrity slimming tool of 2007 was undoubtedly the PowerPlate machine.
Kylie and Madonna (not to mention the whole Man United squad) were reputed to have vibrated their cares, and curves, away on the £6,000 contraptions.
Gyms bought them up like (low-fat) hot cakes and vibration was the new lunchtime buzz word.
But the steep price tag meant Joe and Josephine Bloggs were unlikely to be plugging in at home.
Now a plucky new pretender from Vibrostation is on the market for £900.
“In just ten minutes,” so trumpets the press releases, “you can achieve what would take an hour in a gym!”
Vibration makes muscles contract and relax as much as 60 times per second, which tones them more rapidly than standard exercises. With the Vibrostation, and it’s more expensive forerunners, users hold set positions for 60 seconds while the platform jiggles, a little like doing yoga on a fairground ride.
The system is as safe as any other gym equipment but it’s not just a case of jumping on and wiggling, as with yoga and pilates it’s essential to learn the holding positions.
